Island Pickleball was founded by David Kane, a Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR) Certified Coach and USA Pickleball Association member. He competes from Canada to California and coaches on the islands — so the instruction comes from someone still under the same competitive pressure you're learning to handle.

David coaches players from first-time paddle to tournament-ready, on public island courts and on private courts by arrangement. He competes across the Pacific Northwest and on the national circuit, with frequent podium finishes in mixed and men's doubles.

His teaching leans on strategy, shot selection, and the mental discipline of playing one ball at a time — plus the partner communication habits that turn two individuals into a team that can win close games.

Youth safety

David is a National Sports ID Verified Coach and completes a background check every year, so parents can sign kids up for camps and lessons with confidence.

Most points are lost by a busy mind, not a bad forehand.

We coach two things above all: playing in the now — one ball, one decision, no scoreboard in your head — and partner communication, the small habits of calling, covering, and resetting together that turn two players into a team.

David resurfaces, repairs, and stripes pickleball and tennis courts, and builds new ones — private backyard courts, club courts, and community courts across the islands. Because he plays on them, he knows how a surface should feel underfoot and how the lines should read at the kitchen.

Still competing — every event is a coaching notebook.

David plays tournaments up and down the coast — Washington, Oregon, California, and British Columbia — from island club events to the PPA Tour, with regular podium finishes. What works against the best players in the game comes straight back to your lesson.
